Study Association Caerus is taking its responsibility as a student organization very seriously with regard to the coronavirus. We are in touch with the relevant authorities from the University of Groningen and UCG as a faculty and have taken a number of measures to ensure the safety of our members and the rest of our society.

For our members

We strongly reccomend our members to follow all guidelines currently (15/5/2020) set by the Caerus Board, Dutch government, GGD (Municipal Public Health Service -

Groningen), RIVM (Dutch National Institute for Public Health and Environment), and the University of Groningen. The measures set out by these bodies include, but are not limited to:

  • No (physical) Caerus events and meetings
  • No physical univerisity classes
  • Wash your hands well and frequently
  • Cough and sneeze in your elbow
  • Do not shake hands
  • Avoid unnecessary social contact, stay at 1,5m distance
  • Be mindful of those more vulnerable
  • Keep an eye out for each other

If you are not experiencing any symptoms and are fit and comfortable, we recommend you visit the website It can put healthy students who now have more free time in touch with those in need of help. You can do groceries for those who are in a high-risk group, for example. We strongly suggest you pay it a visit!

We have cancelled all events until the end of the academic year, in line with the University of Groningen closing for that time period, and the government ban on large gatherings. We have also cancelled smaller events due to the restrictions and uncertainty regarding these. This also means we have cancelled our trip abroad to Morocco. Events planned for next year are being  evaluated on a case-by-case basis by our Committee Affairs Officers as well as the relevant institutions. Meanwhile, we are encouraging committees and members to use our digital platforms (website, social media) to continue the Caerus community in an original, online way.

We are aware that this has meant countless hours of organizing international trips, big parties and valuable lectures have gone to waste. However, Caerus is convinced we gladly make this sacrifice to help those affected by the virus and its consequences and keep each other safe.

Behind the scenes

In line with the call for social distancing and working from home, the Caerus Board has instructed that no body of S.A. Caerus should meet physically. This means that the board, committees, and other bodies' meetings are fully online. We are using our existing Google Suite infrastucture and cloud to facilitate this, as well as other forms of communication. We have kept our members updated in e-mails, which can be found on this page.

Should you have any questions, you should ask them to the relevant authorities mentioned above. If they are specifically about Caerus, you can direct them to the following people:

  • General questions to
  • Administrative/Membership questions to
  • Committee/Event questions to /

Final remarks

The Caerus Board meets frequently to discuss further measures and what implications some regulations have on S.A. Caerus. We are trying to make our association still fulfill its purpose of sustaining the community we have built over the years. We have full faith in the creativity and persistance of our members. We will get there. Together.
