Dear UCSRN Members,

From the Australian wildfires to the global Covid-19 pandemic to Kobe Bryant's death, 2020 has been a challenging year. Yet, the UCSRN and all its committees have kept working really hard to bring some sunshine in your lives. On this note, we are really excited to introduce our newest project : The UCSRN Newsletter. This newsletter is an opportunity for members to be updated on what the UCSRN is doing, foster engagement in the inter-UC Student Community and put our members in the spotlight!

Meet the Executive Board 2020 - 2021

Small message from the UCSRN Executive Board:

Dear members,
We hope you are all healthy and well! We are the Executive Board for 2020-2021 and we are all very excited to represent each and every single one of you this year. In these special corona times we are working hard to create opportunities for all our members and bring the University College Community closer together. Social Committee:

The UCSRN Social Committee, is one of the governing bodies of the UCSRN that is in charge of all the great social events that the UCSRN has to offer. These include the approval of the Spotlight and Tournament proposal and other great initiatives throughout the year. It consists of 9 Social Committee Representatives, each of which represent their own University College and Study/Student Association, and the Social Committee Chair. Together we discuss and exchange ideas, visions and projects and are working together with the UCSRN Executive board to create and interconnected UCSRN community!

Academic Committee:

The UCSRN Academic Committee is responsible for reviewing sponsorship requests from Member organizations and being national advocates for the social & academic environments that University Colleges foster. The Academic Committee is also an opportunity for members to share best practices of their University College. This allows for both the best sides of each University College to be shared but also for the individual University Collegeâ€™s problems to be discussed. This way each University College can benefit from the experiences of other University Colleges as well. Finally, the Academic Committee is in contact with the Executive Board of UCSRN. This way the Academic Committee stays informed on national decisions concerning University Colleges and Liberal Arts and Science education and can relay their opinion about these decisions to the Executive Board.

Events: Getting UCSRN funds in Times of Corona

Are you part of a Committee or are you a member of one the nine University Colleges that are part of the UCSRN? If so, then you can request a sponsorship for an event that you are organizing.

There are three kinds of funds for this, namely the academic fund, the social fund, and the self-initiative fund. The academic fund is for academic events, for example, an internship fair or a symposium. The social fund is for social events such as a party or a board game event. The self-initiative fund is for individuals that have an initiative that helps the UC community.

To apply for a sponsorship of the UCSRN you can send in your proposal in this form, which can also be found on ucsrn.nl at the â€œdocumentsâ€ tab. The application needs a budget plan and motivation for it to be considered.

“Fill in the Annual International Student Survey and win an Amazon voucher!

The Annual International Student Survey (AISS) is an initiative of ISO (Dutch National Students Association), ESN The Netherlands and LSVb (Dutch Student Union) to examine the challenges international students face while living in the Netherlands. By presenting the results to policy-makers and politicians we aim to improve the experience of international students coming to the Netherlands.
Due to Corona your input is now more important than ever. Filling out the survey will only take 10-15 minutes and it will help us get a better insight in what is important for international students residing in the Netherlands and what can be done to strengthen their position. Amongst the participants we will raffle six Amazon vouchers worth € 15.
