Caerus is organizing their very first pub lecture! It is organized in collaboration with BarCo by Marit, one of our students who will talk about renewable energy, and Simon, one of our staff members, who will talk about nuclear power. This event takes place right before the St. Patrick's Day event organized by the SOC so come by in your green outfits to talk about green energy! :)
First, Marit will talk about the problems with unsustainable energy in the Netherlands, then she will talk about renewable sources such as solar panels and wind turbines and finally she will tell you something about Vandebron, the sustainable energy company she works for.
After this, Simon will give a small presentation on nuclear power called 'Nuclear Power - What does the science say?' Nuclear power is widely regarded as dangerous, sometimes even outright unethical to use. But could it be potentially useful when trying to combat climate change? And how large are its risks compared with those of fossil energies and renewables really? And is it an environmentally friendly energy source? He will present some surprising facts from the scientific literature to answer these questions.
Finally, we will have a discussion in which we can connect both topics. We're very much looking forward to all of your opinions on the issue so we hope to see you in UCG's bar area at 5 this Friday! Drinks will be provided by BarCo so bring cash if you don't have a BarCo card yet.
